Anti-Anxiety Medications/Benzodiazapines Anti-anxiety medications are often used in the course of treatment of bipolar disorders. These can be used to treat anxieties, mild aggression or sleep difficulties. These types of medications can be extremely helpful when used as rescue medications for periods of instability while titrating towards therapeutic levels of other medications. Anti-anxiety medications can sometimes cause the undesirable side effect of disinhibition, which can be as problematic as the symptoms that are being addressed and therefore should be used with caution.
