Hi all,

My dd has been in  deep depression now for 3.5 weeks. She also has been on Klonopin for the same amount of time.  Does anyone know if this med causes depression?  I've called and have asked for the second time to take her off  of it and they finally agreed.  She has never experienced depression before, its always been mania. Has anyone had experiences with antidepressants at this young age?

Klonopin did weird things to my daughter and made her anxiety worse. Depression is a listed side effect of Klonopin - http://www.rxlist.com/klonopin-drug.htm

Before giving her something for depression, I would see if she improves after the Klonopin is removed.

Ms. 18 tried Wellbutrin when she was 13. It didn't go well. This year she has tried Lexapro during her seasonal depression and it's gone fairly well. However, now that the season is moving towards spring she has become more irritable, which is typically a sign of too much antidepressant. We've cut it in half this week to hopefully clear that up. Smiley (Unfortunately the AD didn't do much for her anxiety issues.)

Thank you very much! I will wait to see if stopping the Klonopin helps clear up the depression before seaking out anything else.
