This has been a really difficult year for Ms. 18. After all the craziness of the year she is missing graduation by 2 credits. While she could walk graduation with her class because of her IEP, she is choosing not to. She just thinks it would be too awkward for her to do it and know that she is missing out.

On the positive side she only has 2 credits to make up and can do that with online classes through the district. They also offer a lot of support. There will be a teacher available for questions and she can do in-person labs to get extra help. She is going to take 1/2 credit over the summer and the remaining credits next school year. Hopefully she can finish up before her yearly depression hits too hard.

Once she finishes her credits and gets her diploma we are going to have our own celebration for all the hard work she has put in over the years.

Oh, Sci - I am so sorry for her!  That is such a disappointment.  It does sound like she has a plan in place to deal with it, though, so that is a positive.

With a senior myself, I can honestly admit that there were days I didn't think we would see this milestone come to pass.  We did - thanks to all of you here for getting me through some very rough patches over the years...and your DD will get there, too, Sci!!

The first week of online class has gone well. Ms. 18 has been working hard every morning. She is feeling successful! I really wish we had done this class at the beginning of the school year. We were discouraged from considering it because the school tdoc didn't think it would be a good fit. They have special ed programs but Ms. 18 doesn't know it's a special ed program, which removes a lot of the resistance that she would normally have. Smiley The quizzes have lots of multiple choice, which is a much easier testing method for her. The writing, so far, has been pretty easy and has been at a level she can do. I'm hoping that it will continue to be successful for her over the next 5 weeks.
