Learning Challenges

Many children with Bipolar Disorder also have learning challenges. Our job as parents is to sort out the puzzle so our kids have the best chance to reach their full potential. First we have to identify the problems we are facing. There are many red flags that are warning signs of learning challenges. Concord Special Education has a wonderful chart to help parents and teachers recognize some of the the red flags of LDs.

Neuropsychiatric Testing is a great way to discover how your child's brain is working and find any underlying or unrecognized learning disabilities. Neuropsych FAQ describes in detail the Neuropsych process and purposes.

Discovering your child has a learning disability of any kind can be a painful shock for parents. Parents need help to cope. There is a lot that professionals can do to help parents cope, and by recognizing what they are going through, parents can help themselves. A fine overview of the issues and way to help can be found at LDOnline.

Once the existence of specific learning challenges has been established, you can begin to address them through various accommodations in IEP and 504 plans.
