May 3 Chat Part 11

Curlywhirly:  hehehe yes big is good

Robin1:  yep and so can retrievers

Robin1:  he takes a lot from my son

Margo:  my 10 yo is overly familiar with people--people he just met are his best friends

Curlywhirly:  we had pet rats, wonderful critters but Mr. 18 was too rough

Scifinut:  we have a GSP--very hyper and needs a lot of activity lol

Crackerjack:  he’s a smart dog though, he has learned to live in a distance from Mr. 13 but act as a buffer at the same time...not always but gosh it’s so neat when he tries to help <note to self to give Einstein an extra treat tonight>

Kodysmom:  that dog was happy with a whole first grade class climbing all over her lol

Dr. Fristad:  have any of you gotten a dog from a shelter?  I have been impressed that many kids with bpd have a  real affinity for other “hurt” creatures.

Dr. Fristad:  and some very nurturing behavior can come out this way

Robin1:  oh

Scifinut:  both of our dogs are “rescue” dogs

Dr. Fristad:  great!

Curlywhirly:  yep our dogs are both rescues

Mom2aspclboy:  Our new puppy (black lab mix) is from a shelter

Kodysmom:  yep, ours was a rescue

Crackerjack:  tried that, was worse but we also rescued a very small dog, the lab is more “intimidating” and he is much less likely to take things on E

Margo:  we talk about a puppy, but haven’t committed yet

Curlywhirly: 100 lb of wild lab-ness can definitely be intimidating

Crackerjack:  YES MA’AM that is what I was counting on :D

Supernova:  I need to go--thank you all (especially Dr. F) for the interesting discussion

Supernova:  night

Scifinut:  bye super

Kodysmom:  bye supernova

Curlywhirly:  Night supernova

Dr. Fristad:  you are most welcome--I wish you the very best!

***supernova has Quit [QUIT:  ]

Crackerjack:  so glad you came, got some great stuff from your questions

Mom2aspclboy:  Our lab is a mix and whatever she is mixed with is small and so is she....She’s been great for my son and is turning out to be a very respectable service dog for him--unintentionally so, but that’s what’s happening

Crackerjack:  oh poo I was too slow

Curlywhirly:  Dr. Fristad, I am not sure how much more time you have available for us tonight

Dr. Fristad:  I will need to call it quits pretty soon

Margo:  question.... Mr. 10 fantasizes extreme violence--he doesn’t act out on it, I find it unsettling to say the least

Dr. Fristad:  I hope you have found the book useful

Crackerjack:  Kodysmom did you ever ask your question?

Curlywhirly:  perhaps Kodysmom can ask her question before you have to zip along?

Margo:  not normal behavior?

Scifinut:  I have to say, ms. 14 thinks its SO COOL that we are having this chat lol

Crackerjack:  lol

Kodysmom:  my question was just how to help our kids w/misinterpretation of social cues

Dr. Fristad:  that does sound unsettling, does he clearly understand “I can think about it, I just can’t do it?”

Margo:  hi ms. 14
