May 3 Chat Part 12 Robin1: dd has been on Adderall XR for a few weeks now and we notice rebound after school, becomes really moody and now not sleeping through the night Kodysmom: help them “get it” I guess :) Crackerjack: ahh Margo: I think so......I only see it in his drawings and a sculpture we did last week Dr. Fristad: let me try to wrap up with both Margo and Kodysmom Curlywhirly: if we can get to it in chat we’ll have some good Ask the Doctor questions for next month =) Crackerjack: :D Learningmom_1bp11yo1: curly, you mean if we can’t get to it? indeed we will..... Curlywhirly: yes, typo =) Dr. Fristad: Margo--sounds like he is using art as a safe means of expression--have you broached the idea with him, or shared with his therapist? Margo: we have a new therapist that I hope is a good match. I will bring it up to him Dr. Fristad: that sounds really smart ****Caeryl has joined #Brainstorm Robin1: hi Scifinut: hi Caeryl Caeryl: Hi everyone Crackerjack: before you need to run Dr. F, I do want to let you know I appreciate all your input, it’s really great that you could take the time to chat with us and share your wisdom and insights Dr. Fristad: Kodysmom--to practice the social cues--we do lots of nonverbal cue training--recognizing affect in others, having others guess kids facial expressions Dr. Fristad: these are great group therapy exercises--any chance your son can get in a social skills group at school or with his therapist? Mom2aspclboy: Dr. F, how about social stories and comic book conversations to practice social situations that may occur or for reviewing those that have occurred? Dr. Fristad: C.J.--thanks, and yes, let’s save the rest of the issues for the monthly Qs. Margo: I was afraid to put him in group because he tends to model behavior of the worst kid Dr. Fristad: yes, social stories and comic book conversations are more variations on that same theme Kodysmom: not sure about therapy, but I guess social skills group at school is for much more impaired kids, so he would feel a little odd there Margo: unfounded fear? Caeryl: I am sorry to have arrived late ****curlywhirly has Quit [QUIT: ] Dr. Fristad: I understand your concerns Dr. Fristad: a well run group is a joy for a therapist to behold... we always refer to MFPG as the “power of the group” --parents and kids both get so much out of meeting with others like them. Margo: MFPG? Dr. Fristad: I do need to sign off, but I have really enjoyed my time with all of you and, and wish you all good health! Margo: oiy all of the acronyms that come to mind! Caeryl: TY for coming Curlywhirly: good night Dr. Fristad and thank you so very much! Scifinut: thanks so much Dr. Fristad Kodysmom: thanks so much Dr. Fristad Crackerjack: thanks so much Dr. F!!! Robin1: nite Dr. Fristad TY for coming Dr. Fristad: MFPG is multi-family psycho education groups--our clinical trial is done with very nice results, we’ll submit our first article soon. Mom2aspclboy: G’bye...Thank you for sharing your time Dr. Fristad: you are all so very welcome Dr. Fristad: you have a special place in my heart *Crackerjack smiles at everyone in the room :-) *Dr. Fristad is going to be away from the room ***Dr. Fristad has left (#Brainstorm)
