Mixed Episodes/Mixed States

Mixed episodes, also known as dysphoric mania, is one of the hardest to define. In a mixed episode there are symptoms of both mania and depression occuring at the same time. Rapid cycling can become a mixed episode when the cycling, or switching, of states is too rapid to follow. Below are some symptoms of a mixed episode:

High agitation along with high energy and constant restlessness
Feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness
Self-destructive behaviors
Suicidal impulses
Severe depression
Racing thoughts but fatigued
High anxiety
Excessive giddiness
Psychotic symptoms
Tired but wired
Difficulty concentrating
Driven or obsessive
Pessimistic
Irritability
