The Bipolar Child by Dr. Demitri and Janice Papalos

-This was actually the first book I read on bipolar in kids and it was very good... it gave a lot of info on everything I wanted to know about meds symptoms etc. It was a very good book. ~Sam

- The original ground breaking book on Pediatric Bipolar with excellent chapters on the genetics and Neuropsychiatric testing as well as the basics of meds and other vital information. ~curlywhirly

Bipolar Disorders: A Guide to Helping Children & Adolescents by Mitzi Waltz

-An in depth guide to the symptoms, causes, treatments and ways to manage the illness. Ms. Walsh actually discusses the darker side of things that many of the other books don't touch, such as deciding on hospitalization, etc. It's a little older than the others, so the med information may not be as up to date, but, if you were going to read one book on pediatric BP to learn more about it, this would be it.~ Bryna Hebert

 In Depth Parent Review

The Ups and Downs of Raising a Bipolar Child by Judith Lederman and Candida Fink, M.D This is a great book for parents who are dealing with bipolar children. It is a very parent friendly look at the rollercoaster we find ourselves on while living with our children who have bipolar disorder. Some great parenting techniques are discussed as well as educational issues. Parents will find they are not alone in their struggles. Its nice to have a book from the parental point of view. Dr. Fink does a great job of adding little tidbits of professional advice along the way. ~ scifinut

I think its a terrific book IF you're new to the bp scene... totally geared for newbies... very simply written.  ~Suzanne1972

Straight Talk About Psychiatric Medications for Kids by Dr. Timothy Wilens is a great book for gaining the basic knowledge about medications that is essential knowledge for any parent of a child with brain disorders.

-This is an excellent "starter" book along with The Bipolar Child. It's not as fabulous for research junkies/parents very experienced with BP and meds. I often recommend this book to parents new to the BP world because it is relatively short and straightforward. ~RGS
